Christmas trees may be going up and lights are being strung, but we are technically still in the Fall season and I have a recommendation. Sleepy Hollow, NY has been on my bucket list for quite some time and this year I checked it off my list. Although I will definitely be returning.
For those we love all things autumnal and Halloween, Sleepy Hollow is the place to visit. The scenery, the history, and of course the Halloween themed festivities are just spectacular. I arrived on Halloween day and was so thrilled to see the town thriving in its element. Houses in the town were elaborately decorated and Main Street was bustling. Little trick r’ treaters were dressed in costumes, carrying their bags and visiting each storefront for some sweet treats.
After the ride into Tarrytown, I was ready to eat and grabbed a delicious bite of food at Sweet Grass Grill where they serve fresh, local and seasonal cuisine. Then I decided to take a walk and meander through the boutiques, soaking up the flavor of the town including a scrumptious sweets shop, Posh Pretzels, that specializes in chocolate covered pretzels.
As night fell it was time for my reservation at The Great Jack O’ Lantern Pumpkin Blaze, which was absolutely stunning and impressive. At your own pace, you walk through this interactive and immersive display with over 7,000 carved and illuminated pumpkins with various themes from the influence of Dutch settlers to Tarrytown to whimsical and Halloween themed favorites.
Make a list before you visit, there is much to see and explore. I absolutely loved visiting the Union Church of Pocantico Hills featuring stunning Stained-glass windows by European masters Matisse and Chagall, commissioned by the Rockefeller family. Schedule a self-guided tour to the Philipsburg Manor and of course you cannot visit Sleepy Hollow without walking through the cemetery to see Washington Irving’s grave and the Headless Horseman Bridge.
You have one year to plan for this trip! Be sure to check out these sights and list which things you would like to see next Halloween!
