Lavender has been used for a number of purposes throughout its existence. And that existence is both extensive and impressive, dating all the way back to the Ancient Egyptians.
The Peace Valley Lavender Farm refers to the endless benefits of this fragrant flowering plant as the “power of lavender.” Lavender is an analgesic, with antimicrobial and antibacterial properties that has potent abilities that can heal wounds, bites and burns. It is a natural and non toxic insect repellant and can be used to calm the nerves. Read more on how to harness the power of lavender here.
Peace Valley Lavender Farm is a sensory trip as it sits on a hill overlooking the Peace Valley Park and beautiful Lake Galena. As you enter the serene property and drive along the narrow path, you are hit with the intoxicating fragrance of over 3,000 blooming plants. The aromatherapy nature of the lavender truly begins to envelope each guest. Suddenly, you may relate to Dorothy amongst the poppies and feel yourself heading straight for one of the many benches to sit, too calm and relaxed to do much else. That is the true power of lavender. After a very stressful time in the pandemic with multiple lockdowns, a simple excursion, an emersion in nature has the ability to clear the mind and offer some peace.
If you decide to do more than quietly sit and enjoy the splendor of the fields, then consider two other options. First, pick your own bouquet. Walk along one of the six fields with the tool and a basket provided by the farm and experience the day to the fullest. Your bouquet does not require water and can simply be tied together and set in a vase or as a fragrant decoration wherever you wish.
Next, visit the charming gift shop that is more reminiscent of stepping into a little cottage filled with twinkle lights and reclaimed wood fixtures more than a retail shop. Products from body care to aromatherapy aids are available, made from the highest quality organic essential oil extracted from the lavender once harvested.
Sadly, lavender does not bloom all year round, but that is what makes the experience so special. Be sure to visit the farm during summer, usually it is in full bloom by the 3rd week in June. Take the time to enjoy the vibrant blooms and incredible ambiance before the harvest.
