Virtually raise your hand if you participated in Earth Hour last Saturday the 27th. Wow! That’s a lot of you, millions in fact, making Earth Hour 2021 a record breaking cry from the world. We want to end climate change and make significant efforts towards a healthy future, not just for ourselves, but for generations to come.
The end of this month is Earth Day, but we as concerned and active fight for climate change citizens can participate every day throughout the year. For many, this is a unique situation. We now work from home, teach our children, stay entertained, and try to keep our sanity all under one roof. The extra time in the house could mean using more energy, but there are simple ways to conserve.
Five Tips to Conserve Energy at Home
1.) Snack Better
This may seem silly, but food waste is significant. In fact, 40% of food is discarded every year! Try finding tasty snacks that utilize good practices, are b corps and generally do good for people and the planet. One of our favorites…Barnana!
2.) Change lightbulbs
LED’s use at least 75% less energy, and last 25 times longer. If you can, make the change.
3.) Now turn those lights off
Make sure to turn lights off. Now that spring has arrived, utilize natural sunlight while working from home. Here’s why.
4.) Unplug devices
Whether it is your computer or your phone, unplug chargers whenever you can to save on electricity and energy. Also, your fur babies can get an electrical shock if they chew a plugged in charger.
5.) No white noise
More time at home can mean more tv time. TV accounts for 4% of the overall energy use in a home. If you are not watching something, turn off the tv. Use the tv timer to set a power off automatically.
