Since 2008, Sugarpeel founder has been using 100% Pure natural beauty products. Her favorite being the beautiful selection of natural body scrubs packed with nourishing ingredients including jojoba oil and vitamin E. The gentle texture and naturally fragrant scent provides a luxurious experience and smooth skin. Another favorite worth a shoutout is the Green Tea Water Bomb Mask. Water bomb is the perfect name for this mask. The face is left feeling ultra hydrated, refreshed and similar to drinking a big glass of water.
We had the opportunity to speak with Founder of 100% Pure, Susie Wang and learn all about this natural and effective brand. Here’s what she had to say.
1). Please tell us when 100% PURE was founded and how the idea to create a clean line came to fruition. 100% PURE was founded in 2005 with my business partners, Ric Kostick and James Wang. I first started my career after I patented a way to stabilize vitamins in skincare to prevent oxidation. I ended up working on product development for some of the world’s largest cosmetic companies, but it was there that I discovered that hundreds of unsafe chemicals were being used to formulate cosmetics. Additionally, they were making false claims about not testing on animals. For these reasons, I felt compelled to resign and was inspired to create my own line of beauty products that were truly natural and cruelty-free. As such, 100% PURE was born. I wanted to produce a line of healthy, high-quality products that customers could trust is safe.
2). Please discuss the philanthropic mission of the company and the ways customers can give back by making a purchase. A core part of our mission is to help both people and animals around the world. Giving back to our global community is very important to us. With our year-round philanthropy program, for every product purchased online, customers can choose at checkout whether 100% PURE will donate one bowl of dog food to shelter dogs in need or plant a tree through our Trees for the Future partner. Separately, when the pandemic hit, we knew we had to figure out a way to help. We donated nearly 60,000 hand sanitizer sprays to non-profits including HealthRIGHT360 and Baby2Baby.
3). What are some of your favorite products you like to recommend and why? For my morning routine, I first use the Lavender Oat Milk Soothing Cleanser to rinse off the active ingredients from the night before. I follow that with our Niacinamide Boost, Restorative Sea Culture Extra Riche Créme, Intensive Nourishing Facial Oil, Coffee Bean Caffeine Eye Cream, and Green Tea SPF 30.
For my evening routine, I start with the Blood Orange Cleansing Balm if I wore makeup that day. If not, I usually use the Lavender Oat Milk Cleanser, followed by our Vitamin C Boost, either the Intensive Nourishing Facial Oil or Multi-Vitamin PM Facial Oil, and top it off with our Multi-Vitamin PM Eye Treatment.
4). Has your business changed during the pandemic? Ex. Have you relied more heavily on digital strategies, focused on customer service, are you taking the time to rework formulas? Amidst the pandemic, it has been essential for us to pivot strategies and find new ways to help our community during such difficult times. First, we focused our efforts on creating new products that our customers need right now, focusing on the self-care and sanitizer categories. Separately, our retail associates are so educated and passionate about our brand and products. We knew we had to leverage this knowledge. They started developing digital content and hosting live stream shopping segments across our social channels. This is something we are continuing to develop further since it is a great way to stay digitally connected with our community.
5). Do you believe that more beauty brands will embrace clean and sustainable practices in the near future due to the plastic waste and climate crisis? I am hopeful that more beauty brands will start developing clean formulas and implementing sustainable practices. This is the future of beauty! Consumers are educating themselves more and more about ingredients these days, especially during the pandemic, so the demand for transparency has also risen. The same goes for sustainability. Conscious spending is important right now and customers are focusing on supporting brands that are making a difference beyond just selling a product.
6). Could you please offer a piece of advice for other women entrepreneurs trying to start or grow their own business? My father gave me a piece of advice that I think is great for all women entrepreneurs trying to start or grow their business. He told me to always produce the absolute best products possible no matter what. He taught me that you can get anyone to buy anything once, but in order to build a strong and loyal following, you always need to make the absolute best. This advice has served me very well and it is something I continue to remind myself throughout my career.
