Any other post today seemed painfully out of touch with the harsh realities our world and country is facing today.
The COVID-19 pandemic has resulted in 100,000 deaths and that number is still rising. During the quarantine over 40 million Americans have lost their jobs, struggling to make ends meet while the threat of additional benefits may be running out. The food insecurity crisis has exponentially grown. According to DoSomething.org People of color are disproportionately affected by higher risk of hunger.
This brings me to another form of injustice. I have been struggling over these past few days to articulate my feelings. Like so many of you, I am sickened, outraged, and distraught, not just for the violent murders of Brionna Taylor, Ahmaud Arbery, and George Floyd, but for the disgusting, systematic racism in this country I call home.
I have been feeling a bit overwhelmed and helpless in terms of what I can do to aid those far greater than I in making a change. In the beginning of the pandemic, Sugarpeel vowed to stay positive in light of the tragic events. Showcasing the good. Here’s how I can keep that promise. By making donations, educating myself on how to become an effective anti racist and sharing any resources that may be helpful to you, fellow anti racists.
Here are resources of which to learn, sign petitions, and if possible donate:
In the meantime, I stand with you and I love you! I am listening and learning. I will not be posting until after June 7th as part of the #AmplifyMelanatedVoicesChallenge.
