Over the past several months, we have been featuring clothing, shoe and accessory brands that are vegan and sustainable. The obvious next step is to move to my favorite and most important in some ways… beauty.
Since personal care products including skincare and makeup are applied directly to the body, caution should be paid when it comes to the ingredient list. Whether your skin in sensitive or not, reading the fine print and doing the necessary research on the ingredient safety, company dedication to the environment, and effectiveness is the duty of each and every consumer.
Arbonne, a company founded by Petter Mørck in Switzerland in 1975 united the resources and expertise of botanists, herbalists, and biologists with one mission- to create personal care products that were both safe and effective. What began small quickly grew to a global brand focused on providing inner and outer health products. Arbonne’s mission is clear, concise, and transparent.
Pure products; vegan, gluten free and botanically based, void of dangerous ingredients including the top 20 biggest health and environmental offenders like paraben. A seemingly common ingredient that is a hormone disruptor, linked to cancer and the destruction of marine life including coral. For the complete list, please read the Arbonne Ingredient Policy– a testament to the dedication to the personal welfare of consumers as well as the environment.
The beauty industry like so many is culpable in the large scale pollution of our world in both packaging and ingredients. Arbonne is dedicated to making a positive difference in the industry by following strict sustainable guidelines to reduce harmful effects and tragic outcomes. Some of the notable accomplishments over the years since inception includes a 67% reduction in water used, per product batch, from 2013 to 2016, use of recycled and recyclable shipping boxes, application of soy inks and FSC-certified renewable resources. Arbonne is also a member of the RSPO (Roundtable on Sustainable Palm Oil) and moving towards a zero waste existence.
When District Manager and Independent Consultant, Jordan Testerman reached out to me about Arbonne I was excited. Excited to learn about a global brand with such passion and commitment to healthy and sustainable living as well as offering effective products! Makeup is an area that can be a challenge for me, both in ingredients that suit my sensitive skin and also in the quality that I have grown accustomed. I decided to sample a lip liner and lipstick. These may sound like simple, harmless options, but for true makeup connoisseurs these are excellent indicators of quality. Texture, pigment, wear all contribute to the perfect pout.
I tried the Arbonne Smoothed Over Lipstick in Magnolia and lined (overdrawn) my lips with Peach liner. As for the results, beautiful, full, long lasting lips in an iconic JLo nude, which I combined with a more dramatic eye. Liner can be hard and chalky. The Arbonne liner is packed with jojoba and olive oil, which glides over the lips and creates the perfect definition and canvas for the lipstick.
The apple fruit extract is what I noticed first or second I should say, after the gorgeous color. The fragrance is fruity and crisp like a granny smith apple. Again the ingredients include ultra rich, hydrating, and moisturizing mango butter and meadowfoam seed oil. The texture is smooth and creamy similar to a balm, more hydrating than a cream lipstick.
