First off, is anyone else in shock that Thanksgiving is next week?! Are you prepared? What are your special holiday plans? I am starting to consider my meal options. I want to experiment with a new recipe alongside the traditional favorites. Any good vegan, gluten free suggestions, please leave a comment!
Also, I came across this helpful article with tips on how to donate and give back for Thanksgiving. Please take a minute to read the ways we can make a difference for people during the holiday.
Switching gears, yesterday, was a chilly day in Philadelphia, a perfect day for layering. As I ran errands and attended meetings, I piled on the clothing pieces to avoid wearing a large coat while I schlepped all over the city. My complete look, which happens to also be my outfit of the day idea, centered around a thrift shop find. A black blazer with shoulder pads and gold buttons. The rest of the pieces were found in my closet from years before, with one exception, a new black faux fur scarf with plaid lining from Violet & Brooks. Overall, the look is quite simple, but with a subtle flair. The gold in my Queen vintage tee accentuates the gold detail on the blazer. The embroidered leggings and sequined oxfords create intrigue to a basic black ensemble.
I have to say, stepping back and looking objectively at this outfit, warms my little fashion heart. It is one of my favorites and represents my style clearly. The reason I make mention of how happy this look makes me is because it is all recycled (again with the exception of my beautiful scarf). I have been guilty of searching my packed closets and coming to the conclusion that I needed more, that somehow I was not following the trends, that I would look foolish, yada yada yada. It has taken years to get to a point where I am making sure that I am “deliberately considerate” while shopping or choosing clothing. In this article, the slow fashion movement is explained and offers tips for reducing carbon footprints in the clothing industry, which I highly recommend reading.
