It is probably no surprise that I love finding a good deal, a good deal on designer brands is even better. One of my dear friends introduced me to thrift shopping and it is safe to say I am hooked. Thrift shopping follows my reduce clothing waste challenge that I imposed upon myself. Fall is my favorite time of year for fashion, but I need to be realistic. In the past, I allowed myself a budget for shopping a brand new fall collection. The reality is that is not a necessity. I really don’t need anything more. This season, I skinned out all of the clothing that I wanted to donate. After I freed up some space, I felt better about adding new pieces, environmentally friendly pieces that won’t just end up in a landfill. Thrift shopping was the way to go. I found unique, vintage gems that will be my wardrobe staples for years, until I am ready to donate again.
When thrift shopping there are some factors to consider. Plan a day where you can spend unlimited time shopping. You will need to examine every piece carefully especially if on the hunt for something designer. Try looking for statement items that will last for years. I am a coat and blazer collector. On this past trip, I found three blazers all with dramatic shoulder pads and embellishments; houndstooth with velvet trim, pumpkin plaid, and double breasted with gold buttons.
