Sadly, I did not read the very popular book The Clear Skin Diet by Alan C. Logan. That would have been helpful to find all of the tips to clear skin in one place. Instead, my research was primarily trial and error, which I want to share.
I am a true believer that environment and diet directly effect health inside and out. It is only after suffering from autoimmune diseases that I discovered this correlation. My own research proved informative- sauna time for releasing toxins, plenty of fruits and veggies, and a doable fitness plan.
Whether you are interested in reducing inflammation, improving gut health, or clearing your complexion, there is a plan to consider. The one I am most interested in tackling is clear, glowing, and youthful skin. No matter how effective the skincare products, skin health begins from the inside out. You will be amazed at the results once you begin eliminating some problematic foods and then reintroducing them.
Universal culprits that are known to cause blemishes, dry skin, and tired sagging eyes include dairy, sugar, and gluten. Boosting your berry intake, citrus fruits, veggies concentrated with vitamin C (broccoli and tomatoes) and healthy fats can all clear the skin and combat fine lines and other signs of aging. Keep in mind that certain fruits have a high glycemic index and should not be over eaten. Dates, watermelon, grapes, mangoes, although have many other health benefits, the sugar is not ideal if trying to clear skin.
The high concentration of vitamins including C and E in berries protect the delicate skin on your face from harmful UV rays and potential environmental damage. Beta- carotene found in vegetables like pumpkin give the skin a healthy glow and can treat dry skin.
Lastly, another no brainer is drinking plenty of water throughout the day. Plump up those cells and avoid looking and feeling dehydrated. If your dietary restrictions allow and doctor approved, try adding or increasing the amount of these foods in your diet. Let me know how you feel and if you notice a difference!
