Supporting ethical, sustainable companies is an area of passion for Sugarpeel. As a brand, Sugarpeel promotes companies and individuals that stand for much more than the bottom line. Consuming should not cause others harm whether referring to the environment (which ultimately effects humans), individuals directly, or animals. Compassionate brands are out there and accessible. They provide services and products that are of the highest quality without compromise. I encourage you to take the time to find these alternatives, even if you are just replacing one item.
Ok give me one second. I need to jump off my soap box. There we go. I’m back and ready to talk about Shea Moisture. The brand is made with natural, organic, cruelty free beauty products from haircare to cosmetics that is fair trade and supports women-led businesses. Sadly, it is only recently that I tried a product. I have several allergies including shea butter. On a recent shopping trip, one of the most dangerous shopping trips. You know the ones where you are “just browsing” with nothing in particular in mind. Those are the worst and sometimes the most expensive. I managed to make it out without too much damage.
One of the items that caught my eye was the 100% Extra Virgin Coconut Oil by Shea Moisture. I had no idea that they sold products with a variety of oils. Don’t ask me why, but shea, argon, and other tree nuts give me a rash, but thus far coconut is safe. A friend of mine told me that the beauty grade coconut oil is quite different from food grade. This was total news to me as I always felt as though the coconut oil sold at the grocery store was too greasy. What a difference! The Shea Moisture 100% Extra Virgin is creamy and luxurious and absorbs into the skin. My skin never felt so good. As the description boasts, my skin was silky and hydrated from my head to my toes. This is the perfect all year round moisturizer as it provides a lightweight sheen of healthy glowing skin.
Now for the lips. As I said before, shea butter is an allergen for me. I need to make my own lip scrub as many contain that ingredient. In a bowl, add a teaspoon of coconut sugar then a few drops of lemon juice. With fingertip, gently scrub coconut oil coated lips thoroughly. Do not apply the dry mixture directly to lips. Always first apply the oil. Then rinse the sugar mixture and pat lips dry. To seal in the moisture, apply the coconut oil for soft and smooth lips!
