It seems a bit ironic to me that my birthday month, a time when my numerical age increases happens to fall within Stress Awareness Month. Maybe it serves as a reminder that remaining calm and staying positive is the very best reaction to a potentially stressful situation.
Sadly, high stress levels can lead to significant *physical symptoms including headache, muscle and joint pains, chest pain and stomach issues. *Mental health is equally effected and can potentially cause anxiety and depression.
Stress is a part of life and may seem unavoidable. Stress may also be healthy in reasonable doses, but needs to be managed. The challenge is finding obtainable ways to destress. Common destressers include regular exercise, meditation and praying.
Make sure to add time in your daily life to quietly find peace within yourself. It does not have to cost money or interfere with your daily routine. Try to incorporate relaxation in your existing schedule. Take a longer shower and say your prayers, cut your tv time at night and unwind with music, park further away from your office to get a short walk. These small changes will make a difference.
For me, I love a good spa day. Give me a day of pampering, hair, massage even a foot soak. Last year, on my birthday, I spent the day with friends at The Rittenhouse Spa & Club. This year, I am doing the exact same thing. Relaxing in the sauna is an excellent way to release unwanted toxins in the body and soothe tired, sore muscles. The experience is calm and centering.
The Rittenhouse Spa & Club now offers weekly specials including:
Stunning Strands Sunday – Blow Out Special
$40
Massage Mondays – 60-Minute Signature Rittenhouse Massage
$120
Transformation Tuesday – Personalized Facial
$100
We Love Philly Wednesday – Present your Philadelphia Driver’s License for 20% off Spa Services
Tips and Toes Thursday – Mani/Pedi Special
$80
Also, do not forget that a guest pass is $50 and includes the fitness center, swimming pool, sauna and steam room.
Even though April is coming to a close remember these tips and treat yourself to a little R&R whenever possible to reduce stress and keep yourself healthy.
