“Give a man a fish, and you feed him for a day. Teach a man to fish, and you feed him for a lifetime.” -Maimonides
In the past, I featured the Sunday Breakfast Rescue Mission after visiting for the day and learning about this important organization. It warmed my heart to see such a supportive group of people dedicated to helping those in need. The Sunday Breakfast Rescue Mission located on 13th street can house 300 men, offer three meals a day, daily showers, spiritual guidance and health assistance sponsored by Thomas Jefferson Healthcare.
However, they also offer long term assistance through the Overcomer Program, which lasts 12- 18 months. This exceptional program assists men as they shift from homelessness by providing them the tools needed to succeed. Within this program, the enrollees benefit from professional development support including resume writing and job application assistance. SBRM believes the key to restructuring the lives of these men is through spiritual guidance and biblical principles. Graduates have found gainful employment within the restaurants, call center, and other industries.
The Learning Center is paramount to the Overcomer Program and has been under reconstruction due to flooding. Through generous donations from leaders in the community, the Learning Center is now completed with brand new finishes and filled with computers and printers, a library, whiteboard and study tables.
On April 25th at 1pm the SBRM is hosting a grand re-opening and ribbon cutting ceremony of the Learning Center as well as this year’s Overcomer graduation. Although this event is not open to the public, please show your support by watching the live streaming of the graduation on Facebook. Let’s celebrate this tremendous accomplishment!
